Straight answers about how import, detection and cancellation actually work.
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No, and there is no option to. Cancel OS works from a statement you export from your bank yourself and import as a PDF or CSV. Nothing to authorise, nothing to revoke.
How accurate is the detection?
Good, and not perfect. Amounts come off the statement exactly; renewal dates are projected from the charges we have seen and are estimates. Anything estimated is marked as an estimate wherever it appears, so you can check it rather than trust it.
When do the renewal reminders arrive?
Ahead of a renewal deadline we have worked out, by email, for the subscriptions you are watching. How many you get and how far ahead depends on what we can tell from your statements: the renewal date is projected from the charges we have seen, so the reminders say “about three days left” rather than counting down to a minute we do not actually know. If you cancel, pause or stop watching something, we check again before each reminder goes out and drop the ones that are no longer true — including ones already queued. A message we have already handed to our email provider is on its way and cannot be pulled back, so one last reminder can still arrive just after you act. We do not send a last-hour warning, because no merchant tells us the hour.
Does Cancel OS actually cancel things?
Where a merchant offers a self-service route, it takes you straight to it. Where the merchant insists on an email, a phone call or a letter — which is most of the awkward ones — Cancel OS writes the request from your account details, shows it to you, and sends it. We can prove what was sent and when. Only the merchant can confirm the subscription has ended, and we never claim otherwise.
What is Private Mode?
It discards the imported transactions once they are saved, so the subscriptions stay on your dashboard and the underlying statement rows do not. Detection itself runs in your browser, but saving still sends us the rows before we drop them — it changes what we keep, not what is sent, and we do not claim otherwise.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Deleting your account removes the profile, the imports, the detected subscriptions and the cancellation history. The confirmation page tells you it is done rather than leaving you to wonder.
