- What happens after you cancel
- EXPORT THE CONTACT LIST FIRST. It is the only genuinely irreplaceable thing in an email marketing account — the emails, the tags, the custom fields and the consent records that prove people opted in. Consent records matter under GDPR: a list you cannot show consent for is a list you cannot legally mail from anywhere else. Then look at what is LIVE. Automations stop, which means welcome sequences, abandoned-cart mails and follow-ups silently stop firing, and signup forms embedded on your website stop collecting. People will keep signing up into nothing. Replace or remove those forms as part of leaving, not afterwards. ActiveCampaign is priced by contact count, so pruning inactive contacts is a real alternative to cancelling. Prepaid annual plans run to the end of their term and the unused part is not refunded.
