Count the four weeks
The notice period is four weeks, and the direct debit keeps running until it is over.
Keep the confirmation and check the last payment date
- Notice period
- At least 30 days before your renewal date. Four weeks. On a one-year contract the cancellation must land at the latest four weeks before the term ends, or it extends automatically.
- How you will know it worked
- Confirmation email.
- What happens after you cancel
- The four weeks are the whole thing, and the date they are counted from is what catches people. On a ONE-YEAR contract you have to cancel at the latest FOUR WEEKS BEFORE the term ends. Miss that and the agreement extends automatically for an indefinite period — at which point you can leave whenever you like, still on four weeks' notice, but you have bought yourself extra months you did not intend to. The direct debit does not stop when you cancel. It stops when the notice period or the minimum term is over, so seeing another payment leave your account afterwards is expected rather than a mistake. Cancelling through My Basic-Fit or the orange kiosk in a club is free. If you are not leaving for good, ask about freezing instead.
