- Account status changes.
- What happens after you cancel
- The single most expensive mistake with Final Fantasy XIV is uninstalling the game and assuming that stops the money. It does not. The subscription lives in the Square Enix ACCOUNT, entirely separately from the game, and it keeps billing a card long after the client is gone. It has to be cancelled in the Square Enix account service. Your characters, retainers and housing are not deleted by cancelling — but HOUSING is the exception worth knowing, because player-owned houses are subject to automatic demolition after a long enough period of inactivity in the game's own rules. If you own a house and plan to come back, that is the thing to check before you stop paying. One Square Enix account can hold several service accounts, each with its own subscription. If money is still leaving after you cancel, a second service account is the usual reason.

Find possible recurring subscriptions in your bank statement. Cancel OS reads a statement export you give it and flags the charges that look recurring, for you to confirm.
