Cancelling Minecraft Realms

DOWNLOAD YOUR WORLD FIRST
The realm is the subscription; the world file is yours. Download it before anything else.
Sign in to your Microsoft or Minecraft account
Open the realm's settings and cancel the subscription
Tell the other players — the realm closes for everybody at once

- DOWNLOAD THE WORLD BEFORE YOU CANCEL. This is the one in this batch where waiting costs something irreplaceable. A Realms subscription rents a server; the world on it is yours, and Minecraft lets you download it as a file you can keep, open in single player, or upload to a new realm later. Do that first, because a closed realm's world is not something you can rebuild. When the subscription ends the realm closes for everyone who was playing on it, not only for you. If it is a family or friends realm, tell them before rather than after. Your Minecraft account, your game and your single-player worlds are completely unaffected — Realms is an add-on, not the game. If you bought Realms through an app store or a console store, that store bills you and has to cancel it.
