Cancelling MongoDB Atlas
About 30 minutes · Hard
TERMINATE THE CLUSTERS
Atlas bills by the hour for running clusters. Nothing else stops that.
Take a backup or a mongodump you can restore from
Check for other billable things: backups, data transfer, search, triggers
Confirm the billing page shows no active resources

- None — cancelling takes effect straight away.

- What happens after you cancel
- Atlas bills BY THE HOUR FOR RUNNING CLUSTERS, and there is no plan to cancel that changes that. A cluster nobody is using bills exactly the same as a busy one. Terminating the cluster is the only thing that stops the charge — and people routinely delete their application, forget the database, and keep paying for months. Take a backup you can actually restore from before terminating. A cloud backup held by Atlas disappears with the project; a mongodump you hold yourself does not. Verify it restores somewhere else before you terminate anything, because termination is immediate and final. Other things bill separately: continuous backup, data transfer, Atlas Search, triggers and any serverless usage. Pause is available for some cluster tiers and reduces but does not eliminate the cost, so it is a holiday rather than an exit. Check the billing page shows no active resources before you consider this done.

What else are you paying for?
Find possible recurring subscriptions in your bank statement. Cancel OS reads a statement export you give it and flags the charges that look recurring, for you to confirm.
