- Establish two things before anything else: WHAT YOU HAVE and WHEN IT RENEWS. Sage sells cloud subscriptions and desktop products under the same brand, and they behave completely differently — a desktop licence may keep opening your data after support ends, while a cloud subscription takes the data with it. Sage business agreements commonly renew automatically and require notice before the renewal date, set by the contract rather than by a standard rule. Export the full accounting data and your reports, and keep them for as long as your tax authority requires. These are statutory records; the software is not the archive. PAYROLL is the part with deadlines attached. If you run payroll through Sage, complete the tax year's submissions and the employee year-end documents before ending the service, because doing it afterwards means re-establishing access under time pressure. Get the cancellation confirmed in writing with its effective date, and tell your accountant before access ends.
