Cancelling Spotify directly

Sign in at spotify.com
Open Account, then Your plan
Select Change plan, then Cancel Premium
Confirm — Premium runs until the period ends
- Notice period
- None — cancelling takes effect straight away.
- How you will know it worked
- Confirmation email.
- What happens after you cancel
- Premium stays until your next billing date and the account then switches to the free, ad-supported service — it is not closed, and you can still log in and listen. Cancelling during a zero-priced trial is the exception: that switches you over immediately. Your playlists and saved music are kept. Spotify is explicit about this, and it is the thing most people are actually worried about: the library survives the cancellation. Downloads do not. Downloading albums and playlists is a Premium feature — on free, only podcasts can be downloaded — so offline listening stops and the downloaded tracks stop playing. They can still be streamed when you are online. If you are going somewhere without signal, that is the plan to change. Worth knowing either way: Spotify requires a device to go online at least once every 30 days to keep its downloads, so an offline library was never permanent.

Cancelling Spotify through Apple
About 3 minutes · Easy
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, then tap your name
On the web, go to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions
Tap Subscriptions
Select the subscription, then Cancel Subscription
- Notice period
- At least 1 day before your renewal date. Apple requires cancellation at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- How you will know it worked
- Confirmation email.
- What happens after you cancel
- You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for — Apple does not refund the unused part, and cancelling early does not end it sooner. The subscription disappears from your Apple subscriptions list on that date. Two things this does not do: it does not close your account with the service, so anything stored there stays where it is, and it does not get you a refund. Refunds for Apple-billed subscriptions are asked for at reportaproblem.apple.com, not from the merchant, who genuinely cannot issue one.

Cancelling Spotify through Google Play
About 3 minutes · Easy
Open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions
Tap Subscriptions and select the app
Tap Cancel subscription and confirm
- Notice period
- None — cancelling takes effect straight away.
- How you will know it worked
- Confirmation email.
- What happens after you cancel
- You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Google Play does not refund the remainder, and the subscription shows as cancelled with its end date until then. Cancelling here stops Google charging you; it does not close your account with the service or delete anything in it. A refund, if you want one, is requested through Google Play — and only within a short window, after which Google sends you to the developer.

Cancelling Spotify through PayPal
About 4 minutes · Medium
Sign in to PayPal and open Automatic Payments
Select the merchant
Choose Cancel and confirm
Also cancel with the merchant directly
- Notice period
- None — cancelling takes effect straight away. Cancelling the PayPal billing agreement stops payment but may not close the account with the merchant.
- How you will know it worked
- Confirmation email.
- What happens after you cancel
- Cancelling the automatic payment stops PayPal from paying — it does not cancel your subscription. As far as the merchant is concerned you are still a customer with a failed payment, which can mean reminder emails, a charge to another card they hold, or the debt going to collections. Cancel with the merchant as well, and treat this step as blocking the money rather than ending the agreement.
