Cancelling Zendesk

About 45 minutes · Very hard

  1. Find your renewal date and the notice your plan requires

  2. Export your tickets and your help centre articles

  3. Cancel in the admin centre, or through your contact for a contracted plan

  4. Redirect your support email address before access ends

  5. Keep the written confirmation

Notice period
None — cancelling takes effect straight away. Annual plans renew automatically and require notice before the renewal date, as set in the agreement.
How you will know it worked
Support ticket reply.
What happens after you cancel
The trap is the SUPPORT EMAIL ADDRESS. Zendesk usually receives your support mail through forwarding or a connected mailbox, and when the account ends that mail has nowhere to land — customers keep writing and nobody sees it. Sort out where support email goes BEFORE the subscription lapses, not after. Same for the help centre: if it sits on your own domain, those URLs stop resolving. Export the ticket history. It is the record of what you promised customers, and it is the thing organisations most regret losing. Export the help centre articles too — they are usually years of accumulated writing. Annual plans renew automatically and need notice before the renewal date; monthly plans stop at the end of the paid month. Suspended and deactivated agents can still hold billable seats, so check the agent list if the bill does not fall as expected.

What else are you paying for?

Find possible recurring subscriptions in your bank statement. Cancel OS reads a statement export you give it and flags the charges that look recurring, for you to confirm.
